Learning geometry — shapes, areas and angles
"Geometry is math you can see: squares, circles, angles and solids. From recognizing first shapes in grade 1 to area and volume formulas in grade 8."
What is this topic about?
Geometry starts with naming shapes: triangle, square, rectangle, circle. Then come properties: how many corners and sides? Which angles are equal? From grade 3, perimeter (the length of the boundary) is calculated, and from grade 5 areas — rectangle (length × width), triangle (base × height ÷ 2) and later circle (π r²). Grades 5–8 add solids like cuboids and cubes with volume and surface, angle sums (180° in a triangle, 360° in a quadrilateral) and unit conversions (cm, m, km; cm², m²). Geometry is best learned with a pen and a quick sketch: every formula tells a story about a drawing.
The best way to learn it
Draw a sketch for every task — half the solution idea appears while drawing.
Remember the angle sums: 180° in a triangle, 360° in a quadrilateral.
Speak formulas as a sentence: "area equals length times width" sticks better than A = a · b.
